TANIA L. HERNANDEZ

For over 20 years, Tania has dedicated much of her life to special education - which includes teaching and supporting kids with developmental and learning exceptionalities. She holds a BA (Hons.)in Language, Literature and Minor in Economics, and has diplomas in Marketing, Insurance, Special Education, English as a Second Language. Tania is a certified Multisensory Language and Reading Practitioner, and is an Associate of the Canadian Academy of Therapeutic Tutors (CATT).Also, she is a member of the International Dyslexia Association of Ontario (IDA).

Tania offers a therapeutic one-on-one `total language hour` session, which follows a curriculum that follows the Structured Literacy approach -  explicit (direct instruction),step-by-step, sequential, cumulative and uses multisensory strategies that follow the Orton-Gillingham approach. The language skills include: penmanship, alphabet/dictionary, sequencing, reading, spelling, phonics, morphology, composition and grammar. The therapeutic teacher considers the whole student, challenges the student commensurate at his level and gives positive, valid encoragement throughout each lesson. The therapeutic environment fosters collaborative learning between teacher and student, including promoting cognitive, emotional and social growth.
